5 things that scare me about NYC

1. homeless/crazy people. I'M SORRY I'M SORRY GOSH, i know they're in need of help but DEY SCARE ME SOMETIMES OK?! i'm a helpless defenseless 22 year old girl and my pepper spray connect hasn't come through yet and my mom didn't sign me up for tiger schulmanns when i was a tot. i always gotta keep my windows up and doors locked when i'm driving in the city because homeless people love coming up to my car at red lights and dancing and talking (true story)

2. subways. i hope there are case studies about subways because people just CHANGE in those underground cars. as soon as you step in those doors i feel like someone is going to #yesyougetslappedifyoulookinghoe slap me if i look at them. it is an unsaid rule to put your best emotionless face on and look like you are unaware that there is a full blown mariachi band playing in the car.

3. children international solicitors. i mean they don't really scare me they just annoy the shit out of me. ESPECIALLY when they come up to you all unsuspecting and ish. they'll be like "hey, can i use your lighter?" and then be like "HEY, CAN YOU SAVE SOME CHILDREN?" aw hells no. RUN!!

Whenever my favorite artist comes out with a new single...I always think to myself..."Would I like this if I didnt' know who it was?" When I asked myself that question referring to Jay-Z and Kanye West's new single...the answer was definitely...NO. This is the first single off of their upcoming album "Watch The Throne." Should anybody really be watching the throne? This is a BASIC Lex Luger beat with some lazy witt-less (is that a word?) lyrics...dissapointing.

We shall have to wait and see what the rest of the album gives us.

I feel the need to comment on Kanye's new movie/music video. This is a hate it or love it situation (like most Kanye situations) but I have a strong love for this video...for a couple of reasons.

1. For Ye to direct such a lengthy film, with a really creative plot, shows how much of an artist he really is. I think the reason why I love Kanye sooooo much is because he truly is an INNOVATIVE artist, from being a backpack rapper in 2003, to going left field with 808's and heartbreaks, to making a 35 minute musical film. Innovate is a word that is thrown around too lightly, but it fits Mr.West.

2. The video is just visually stunning. The landscapes, lighting, colors...magnificent.

3. Previewing those new tracks that are dropping November 22 on his album "My Dark Twisted Fantasy"...all of them were sosososo dope.

4. Selita Ebanks is bad...even as a parrot.

The only part I wasn't crazy about was the actual "Runaway" part. Ballet was too lengthy.

Whether you think the film is great or not, Kanye is making HISTORY.

Kid Cudi's "Pursuit of Happiness" has made it's way onto my FAVORITE SONGS OF ALL TIME LIST. Yes its "old" (whatthefuckever) but I need to "revive" it and share all the amazing covers/remixes I find of this song. From indie to dance, this song translates beautifully in any genre.

Steve Aoki's cover to "Pursuit of Happiness" was featured in a Vitamin Water commerical. ::fist pump:: Really, AMAZING dance cover.

On the flipside, this is more of a Jack Johnson swag...totally gives the song a more chill feel. This cover is done by Barbara, an indie group from Cali.

This is the cover that inspired me to write this post. This girl, Lissie totally matches the energy of the original and gives it some mind blowing twist.

Today is the day I have been waiting for ever since I feel in love with Drake's "So Far Gone." If you live under a rock, Drake's debut album "Thank Me Later (TML)" drops today. Unfortunately (or fortunately for the fiends) the entire album leaked about 2 weeks ago so anybody who wanted to hear it...already has. I don't know...I feel like the album will still go platnium for sure, I'm not so sure if it's gonna be in a week, but well see.
After really listening to this alnum for two weeks...I'm still not entirely sure how I feel about it. I think reason being is that I'm not sure about who Drake is musically. His consistency is a little off. Also, for Drake fans like myself, I put TML to a very high standard. With soooo much hype and hip-hop heavyweights on the album such as producers Kanye West, Timbaland, and Swizz Beatz, and collabs with Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, and Lil Wayne...how could you not have high standards?
One thing I love about Drake is how real he keeps it. "The Resistance" totally tears any guard down that Drake once (or never) had, and shares some of himself with his fans. Lines like "plus this women that I mess with unprotected txt me saying she wish she woulda kept it/ the one I’m laying next to just looked over and read it" leave him exposed...how could that not be true. Song reminds me of "Say What's Real"..from "So Far Gone"
On the flipside, "Miss Me" featuring Lil Wayne....came off a lil weak to me. They have had MUCH better songs together (Ignant Shit, Ransom). That weren't even on albums. Pretty dissapointing.
Also, he is still a freshman. He gave NO love to any of the new kids but Nicki Minaj. Get off your high horse and get Kid Cudi, anybody from Young Money, or somebody on the album. IDK.

Overall...I'd give the album a 7 out of 10. Anything Drake does I love, and the album keeps growing on me. I'm judging this album looking at it as a DEBUT album that had more than enough support...it could have been better. Either way, I do like it.

So if you were scheming like me and downloaded the album...you owe Drake. GO get the album. And if you didn't....go get the album ;).

Drake was recently featured in the NYT music section, with a detailed story on how he went from "Jimmy" from Degrassi to "Drizzy Drake". VERY interesting, I encourage you to read it. I love drake and found out really interesting things. He doesn't hold back..

wow. was not expecting such an intense/VIOLENT video. it is easy to see why M.I.A would release such a video, since she grew up in the midst of the Sri Lankan civil war.

this video got to me a bit. i would be surprised if you DIDN'T get some sort of emotion evoked by watching this video.

the ginger boys in this video can remind us all of how violence is so easily triggered over a single characteristic, whether it be red hair, skin color, nationality, or religion. violence to this degree is happening all the time, every day.

summer is amazing. i feel like a kid again in the summer, always wanting to be outside and possessing endless amounts of energy. all i need in the summer is some sun and i'll be content, but these are the things that make my summer that much better.

1. self tanner
yeah i admit it, i used to follow a tanning bed routine like it was my job. nothing feels better than the warmth of the artificial sun on skin on a winter afternoon, and coming home with a nice tan. but after hearing about fellow 20-somethings getting skin cancer, and new reports stating that indoor tanning increases the risk of melanoma by 75%!!! percent, i officially quit the tanning beds. i'm not gonna lie, i still tan outside but i use SPF and rely on self tanner a lot more than I ever used to.

if i could choose a soundtrack for the summer of 2008, it would just be The Carter III. i loove when new albums drop in the summer. thankfully, there are albums to look forward to. and don't quote me on these albums ACTUALLY dropping in the summer, cause you know how record labels do, always pushing back dates. ugh.

MAC released the campaign for Lady Gaga and Cyndi Lauper as the new spokespeople for the MAC AIDS Fund....ooooooh la la. Past spokespeople include Dita Von Teese, Lil Kim, Mary J Blige, Elton John, Pamela Anderson..and so on. Cyndi Lauper looks kind of fabulous no? Both of them do.

this up and coming band is out of baltimore...and it's definitely a FRESH new sound. it's hip-hop minus the same beats you hear on the radio, instead adding in some more instruments..sort of like the roots and asher roth had a baby.
