Kid Cudi's "Pursuit of Happiness" has made it's way onto my FAVORITE SONGS OF ALL TIME LIST. Yes its "old" (whatthefuckever) but I need to "revive" it and share all the amazing covers/remixes I find of this song. From indie to dance, this song translates beautifully in any genre.
Steve Aoki's cover to "Pursuit of Happiness" was featured in a Vitamin Water commerical. ::fist pump:: Really, AMAZING dance cover.
On the flipside, this is more of a Jack Johnson swag...totally gives the song a more chill feel. This cover is done by Barbara, an indie group from Cali.
This is the cover that inspired me to write this post. This girl, Lissie totally matches the energy of the original and gives it some mind blowing twist.
The highlight of this years BET Awards 2010 was HANDS DOWN Chris Brown's tribute to Michael Jackson. He can dance like nobody's business. I don't know how he could have sang to "Man in the Mirror" WITHOUT crying after all the things he has been through.
today marks a year from the death of the incredible Michael Jackson.
to be honest, i never really took much attention to MJ until he died. when listening to his songs vs. songs today, it is SO obvious the impact and inspiration he has still put on music today. for someone so mind blowingly talented and amazing it's such a shame the things he had to go through in his life. no matter what genre of music you are into...it's so easy to love Michael.
ugh i LOVEE mee some Aziz Ansari. if you saw "funny people (a movie that sucked)" you know who RAAAAAAAANDY is. i love RAAAAAAANDY and i love Aziz Ansari. Ansari recently hosted the 2010 MTV Movie Awards.
watch this clip of RAAAAAAANDY and his shenangians at CVS.
ugh. something about amber rose. i've loved her before she was with kanye. and now she blew up! get emm. something about her look is so captivating and makes me want to know more. pop the jump for her recent interview with YRB magazine, and her part in the NOH8 campaign.
“Honestly, Kanye saved my life, and I don’t even think about what I would have been; I just think about what I’m gonna be”
Today would have been Tupac Shakur's 39th birthday.
Still, so young. Younger than Jay-Z. For the short time he was here, he has made an incredible impact on artists today. It's crazy to think what Tupac would be like in today's society....I feel like the whole game would be different.
Today is the day I have been waiting for ever since I feel in love with Drake's "So Far Gone." If you live under a rock, Drake's debut album "Thank Me Later (TML)" drops today. Unfortunately (or fortunately for the fiends) the entire album leaked about 2 weeks ago so anybody who wanted to hear it...already has. I don't know...I feel like the album will still go platnium for sure, I'm not so sure if it's gonna be in a week, but well see.
After really listening to this alnum for two weeks...I'm still not entirely sure how I feel about it. I think reason being is that I'm not sure about who Drake is musically. His consistency is a little off. Also, for Drake fans like myself, I put TML to a very high standard. With soooo much hype and hip-hop heavyweights on the album such as producers Kanye West, Timbaland, and Swizz Beatz, and collabs with Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, and Lil Wayne...how could you not have high standards?
One thing I love about Drake is how real he keeps it. "The Resistance" totally tears any guard down that Drake once (or never) had, and shares some of himself with his fans. Lines like "plus this women that I mess with unprotected txt me saying she wish she woulda kept it/ the one I’m laying next to just looked over and read it" leave him exposed...how could that not be true. Song reminds me of "Say What's Real"..from "So Far Gone"
On the flipside, "Miss Me" featuring Lil Wayne....came off a lil weak to me. They have had MUCH better songs together (Ignant Shit, Ransom). That weren't even on albums. Pretty dissapointing.
Also, he is still a freshman. He gave NO love to any of the new kids but Nicki Minaj. Get off your high horse and get Kid Cudi, anybody from Young Money, or somebody on the album. IDK.
Overall...I'd give the album a 7 out of 10. Anything Drake does I love, and the album keeps growing on me. I'm judging this album looking at it as a DEBUT album that had more than enough support...it could have been better. Either way, I do like it.
So if you were scheming like me and downloaded the album...you owe Drake. GO get the album. And if you didn't....go get the album ;).
I love J.Cole...if you're sleeping on J.Cole...das noot a good idea. Cause he's hoootttt....I feel like the way most people would recognize him is his verse on Jay-Z's "A Star is Born"... he is signed to Jay-Z's Roc Nation.
Drake was recently featured in the NYT music section, with a detailed story on how he went from "Jimmy" from Degrassi to "Drizzy Drake". VERY interesting, I encourage you to read it. I love drake and found out really interesting things. He doesn't hold back..
"The New Orleans rap star Lil Wayne heard Drake’s music in the summer of 2008 and invited him out on the road. “I sat in the same place on the bus for a week,” Drake recalled. “I was scared.” Wayne only found out about Drake’s acting past when he landed on “Degrassi” while flipping channels on the bus’s television."
Read the entire NYT Times article, and the verse Drake dedicated to his short-lived relationship with Rihanna on his new album "Thank Me Later" and the actual song and lyrics .... after the jump.
Ahh okay so I'm still recovering from Hot 97's Summer Jam last night. Headlining was Drake, Nicki Minaj, Trey Songz, Usher, Ludacris, Fabolous, Gucci Mane, Juelz Santana, DJ Khaled...and more. It was my FIRST Summer Jam......watch out for me next year...with my press pass ;).
There was supposed to be a DIPSET REUNION..which would have been the epic appearance of the night since they haven't been on stage together since WHO knows when...but Jim Jones was not allowed in...soo dissapointed.
Pics (mine, and from other websites)..after the jump.
I never write about fashion but this girl is KILLLLLING it. Her name is Melody Ehsani, and she's baddd. Her funky fresh accessories & shoes have been spotted on everybody from Alicia Keys to Amber Rose, and they're not going anywhere.
i'm ADDICTED to you. im in freakin love with you. i think about you all the time, and i get anxious when i don't hear from you. i like when you're around ALL the time, when i'm showering, in the car, even when i'm with my friends. even though sometimes you make me sadder than i already am, you can make me happy as hell. i love starting my day with you, and i love ending it with you. i can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you........................
